“Fingers crossed that we are able to serve everyone treating their moms today,” he wrote.

Zomato’s Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart witnessed an uptick in demand for items like chocolates, roses and handbags.

Blinkit also saw an increase in sales of smartwatches, jewellery and perfume. “Fresh bouquets sales have been spiking since morning,” Dhindsa wrote with a chart showing the sales exceeding those of Valentine’s Day.According to Phani Kishan, chief executive of Swiggy Instamart, the most popular orders today varied across cities. In Bangalore and Mumbai, roses were the top choice, while Delhi preferred chocolates, Hyderabad opted for plants, Chennai ordered cakes, and Kolkata ordered perfumes.

“Going by the current orders, looks like @swiggyinstamart is on track to hit our highest-ever orders today; surpassing not just NYE but also peak days like V-Day and Holi this year,” Kishan wrote in a post.

On New Year’s Eve, both Swiggy and Zomato witnessed a surge in the demand for specific food items. For Zomato, the number of times users opened its app on December 31, 2023 surpassed the figures observed on Christmas. “8,422 orders were placed at 8:06 pm – that’s 140 orders every second,” Goyal had said in a post last year on December 31.

Meanwhile, ride-hailing company Ola and Zomato-backed hyperlocal ecommerce startup Magicpin, both of which are part of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), partnered to deliver food items on Mother’s Day.

“Day by day, ONDC is demonstrating the power of collaboration. This Mother’s Day, it is exciting to see @mymagicpin and @Olacabs working together to reach lovely treats and cakes to thousands of moms, showing they can do better than the Biggies,” T Koshy, chief executive of ONDC, wrote in a post on X.
