IPL viewership: Star Sports records 51 crore IPL viewers in 51 matches as race to playoffs intensifies

As the Tata IPL is nearing the finals with merely 17 matches left, the cricket fever has further set new records not just in the sport but also in terms viewership. In an official release, broadcaster Disney Star stated that it has witnessed continued to to achieve remarkable viewership milestones.

According to the latest data released by BARC, Disney Star’s broadcast channel for IPL, that is Star Sports, has garnered 51 crore viewers in the first 51 matches played, recording a 5 per cent growth from the previous high of 2019 for the said number of matches.

Moreover, the broadcaster has seen an 18 per cent growth from previous edition in minutes of total watch time with 35,600 crore minutes spent.

Disney Star also witnessed a growth of 19 per cent in TVR for the first 51 matches as against the 2021 season.

With high scoring matches and intense games, fans have been hooked to the game as a new record is made everyday. Further, as the race to playoffs intensifies, with no team qualified yet and 9 of the 10 teams alive in the race, IPL keeps up the entertainment quotient for the fans.”The TATA IPL 2024 season is reaching its fever pitch, and Star Sports is capturing the electrifying race to the playoffs with unique surround programming,” Disney Star said in its release. It added: “The battle for the top four positions is set to go down to the wire, promising thrilling and exceptionally close matchups, making it one of the most compelling races in IPL history.”

Disney Star is airing TATA IPL 2024 on 14 channels in 10 languages, including a dedicated feed in Indian Sign Language for Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Visually Impaired fans. The marketing campaign for the 17th edition of the tournament, titled “AJAB IPL KE GAJAB RANG,” centers around the insight that a fan’s true colors are revealed through their team’s journey in the tournament, with each IPL moment experienced uniquely by different viewers.

Star Sports this year has also partnered with Tata Play and Airtel Digital TV to offer IPL matches on 4K resolution and enabled Value Added Services.
