Variety has exclusively reported that leading Brazilian director Kleber Filho is all set to direct “Civil War” fame actor Wagner Moura in the movie “The Secret Agent”. This is said to be a political thriller. MK2 films will be introducing this film to the audience at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May.

Storyline

Moura Wagner whose well-known character, Pablo Escobar, in the Netflix Series of ‘Narcos’ was critically acclaimed will play the role of Marcelo, who is in his 40s and is on the run. He is a university professor by profession.
He travels from Sao Paulo to Recife, which is a seaside town and also the center of the famous Carnival festival. Marcelo hopes to reunite with his son in this seaside town. However, he soon finds out that to his disadvantage, he has been tailed and spied upon by his neighbors. Can he escape from the authorities and the cycle of corruption?

In the 1970s which saw the last few years of Brazilian military rule, frequent protests and clashes became the order of the day, before democracy was restored in the world’s coffee producing hub. It is in this context that the film has been set.

Cast

It has been reported that the director is passionate about this project. Recife happens to also be his hometown. It is said to be a well-researched film focusing on the events from the 1970s. Along with the main story, the audience will also be entertained with some Brazilian music and cultural events, such as the Carnival Festival. It is expected to be released in 2025.
