When the service was inaugurated on March 15, last year, the metro witnessed an overwhelming response from the public. It has ferried over 70,000 commuters on the first.
Ever since the country’s first underwater metro began operations on Kolkata’s Howrah Maidan-Esplanade stretch, which passes beneath the Hooghly River, it has welcomed over 12.14 lakh commuters on board. The milestone has been achieved in just 30 days.
When the service was inaugurated on March 15, last year, the metro witnessed an overwhelming response from the public. It has ferried over 70,000 commuters on the first. After completing the 17 days, the passenger’ count mounted at 750,000.
Green Line Earning
It has been reported by the Metro Railway Kolkata that during the period from March 15 to April 14, the Green Line section successfully earned Rs 1.75 crore.
Talking about the stretch between Kavi Subhash and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, it has also received an overwhelming response from the public. The metro has witnessed over 24,205 passengers in a month, taking the earning graph at Rs 5.57 lakh.
Benefits
When it comes to the commuter’s comfort, the report says passengers feel quite comfortable while traveling or changing the corridors at Esplanade and Kavi Subhash Metro stations (New Garia in south Kolkata), big thanks to integrated tickets.
Blue Line
Meanwhile, the country’s first metro Blue Line still serves as the lifeline in Kolkata. It offers a seamless travel experience to the public, carrying lakhs of commuters in a day. As per the official data, after the commercial service begins on the newly inaugurated underwater stretch of Green Line and Orange Line, the average number of travelers on Blue Line has increased by 61,000.
