NEW DELHI: US President Joe Biden‘s brother, James Biden, will testify in a closed-door session for a Republican-led House of Representatives impeachment inquiry on Wednesday.
James Biden is also anticipated to face questions about two “loan repayment” checks he issued to the president—one for $200,000 and another for $40,000.
So far in the probe, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has determined that Biden family members, their business connections, and their “related companies” received “significant payments from individuals and companies in China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Romania,” as reported by Fox News.
James Biden would be the first member of the president’s family to testify in this investigation. Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son, who is at the center of the accusations, is scheduled to speak to investigators next week.
House Republicans have continued with the probe despite charges against a former FBI informant involved in the investigation. The informant was charged with lying to investigators.
The Republicans allege that President Biden and his family, including James, made improper profits from policy decisions made during Biden’s time as vice president in the Obama administration. The White House has denied any wrongdoing and dismissed the inquiry as a partisan attack.
Multiple witnesses have stated in their interviews that Biden had no involvement in his family’s business activities.
James Biden was connected to the business activities of his nephew Hunter Biden, who is an artist, investor, and lawyer.
Former President Donald Trump, the leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination, has supported the investigation.
