In a grand production presentation for the highly anticipated drama ‘Queen of Divorce’, held in Seoul on January 31, the spotlight shone brightly on Kang Ki Young as he embarks on his inaugural journey as a male lead. ‘Queen of Divorce’ unfolds the gripping narrative of Korea’s preeminent divorce solver, navigating the intricacies of ending problematic marriages by penalizing the offending spouses.
As Kang Ki Young gears up for his breakthrough role in ‘Queen of Divorce’, the actor shared his sentiments during the event, exuding a mix of excitement and pressure. With candor according to Allkpop, he expressed, “I feel a lot of pressure as I take on my first male lead role. I’m curious and excited to see how people will perceive it.”
Acknowledging the challenges that came with stepping into a new realm of responsibility, Kang Ki Young playfully reflected on his experience, leaning on the support of senior actress and main lead, Lee Ji Ah. With a touch of humor, he shared, “I once said that it always felt like there were four feet on a square table, but this time it felt like there were only two. It was challenging to maintain my balance. If you ask me if I enjoyed it, I’d say, ‘I wanted to enjoy it,’ with a bit of nervousness”. The actor further elaborated on his nerves, revealing how Lee Ji Ah’s encouragement played a pivotal role in alleviating them. “Initially, I was quite nervous, but Lee Ji Ah encouraged me to approach the role with excitement. After that, I was able to watch her performance comfortably. She’s an amazing senior actress.”
Delving into their on-screen chemistry, Kang Ki Young unveiled the evolution of their dynamic. “At first, we were a bit shy, but as we grew closer and shared romantic scenes, our bond deepened quickly. I’d rate our chemistry as a 9.5 out of 10”. To the amusement of the audience, Lee Ji Ah couldn’t resist asking, “Why did you deduct 0.5 points?”
Lee Ji Ah expressed her satisfaction with the drama’s comedic elements, highlighting her spontaneous ad-libs during filming. She remarked, “This drama has a comical side, and I had a lot of fun with Kang Ki Young. There were times when I spontaneously ad-libbed without informing the director, and it was enjoyable”. Kang Ki Young chimed in, acknowledging the unexpected comedic side of Lee Ji Ah, “I didn’t initially expect her to have such a comedic side. She contributed some cool ad-libs and suggestions, resulting in many entertaining scenes.”
As ‘Queen of Divorce’ promises a blend of romance, comedy, and Kang Ki Young’s debut in a leading role, the anticipation among viewers is palpable. The duo’s chemistry, coupled with the intriguing premise of the drama, sets the stage for a compelling and entertaining viewing experience when the series graces screens.
