Siri is a personal assistant built into Apple iOS devices — iPhone and iPad. It is Apple’s rival to Google Assistant. With the roll out of iOS 10 in 2016, Apple opened up Siri to developers to allow them to have their apps be controlled by Siri commands. This means that Apple iPhone and iPad users can ask Siri can use Siri to book a ride with Uber, send WhatsApp messages, place WhatsApp calls, or read aloud their unread WhatsApp messages and more. Also, iOS 17 supports bilingual Siri queries that mix English with Hindi, Telegu, Punjabi, Kannada and Marathi.
Here’s how to get started:
* Go to iPhone Settings > tap Siri & Search
* Turn on Press Side Button for Siri or Press Home for Siri
* Scroll down and tap WhatsApp
* Turn on Use with Ask Siri
Note: On Apple iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR users can press and hold the side button > tap Turn On Siri.
Also, please remember that opening WhatsApp with unread messages will reset the notification badge. Siri will then interpret this as if there were no unread messages and therefore won’t read them aloud.
In case you want to turn off this feature, here’s how you can do that:
How do I turn off Siri on WhatsApp
* Open Settings
* Scroll down until you find the Siri & Search settings
* Within this section, find WhatsApp and tap on it
* Toggle off Use with Ask Siri
What this means is that while you will still be able to launch the app using Siri, it will prevent the virtual assistant from sending your information with the app to Apple to process your requests.
